The Black Dog Newsletter June 25 – July 2 “Free Car Day Edition!”
So after a 10 year hiatus Black Dog Video will be back on the street for Car-Free Day on Commercial July 7th! Drop by and say hey, peruse that great movies and box sets we’ll have for sale and check out (re: buy) a cool T-shirt or two. We’ll (hopefully) be unveiling a sweet new design that day as well. Hope to see you there (if not in the stores before then).
New Releases!
Furie – Trying to retire from the gang-style life, a woman moves to the Vietnamese countryside only to have her daughter kidnapped. Time to kick some butt!
Haazussa – Cool witches in pagan times horror number from Germany. Yes please!
Hummingbird Project – Jesse Eisenberg, Alexander Skarsgård,(in a terrible looking bald cap) Salma Hayek conspire against one another in this stock trading thriller.
The Kid – Ethan Hawke, Chris Pratt and other actors act in this tale of Billy the Kidd and Pat Garrett.
Mary Shelley – 16 year-old Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin meets 21 year-old (ewww!) Percy Shelly and have a Frankenstein baby!
Patrick Melrose – Benedict Cumberbatch is a guy named the title of this show who does some drugs and then redeems himself. Supposed to be excellent.
Standoff at Sparrow Creek – Heavy drama about a former cop-turned-militia man who investigates a shooting at a police funeral.
Una – A woman (Rooney Mara) confronts an older man (Ben Mendelsohn), her former neighbour, to find out why he abandoned her after they had a sexual relationship. Seems to be an icky theme this week.
Under the Silver Lake – A dude sets off across LA on a weird journey to find a woman he met the night before who’s mysteriously vanished. From the guy who made the brilliant It Follows! Totes looking forward to this!
Valentine: Dark Angel – A waitress in a tough town gets turned into a superhero. I hope that it’s better than I made it sound.
