The Black Dog Newsletter June 11-17 “Mermaid Ave Edition!”
Whew! Italian Days are behind us once again. It was a zoo – 300,000 humans walking around the Drive. So many people. One bright spot was in front of a little shop known as Black Dog Video there was a real live mermaid chillin’! (Thanks, Tristan Risk!) Cool.
We will probably be adjusting the store hours in the next couple of weeks as summer rolls in. Something along the lines of opening later in the afternoon and possibly remaining open later in the evening. Stay tuned.
New Releases!
Gloria Bell – Gloria Bell is Julianne Moore, a free-spirited woman in her 50’s who rocks the L.A. dance club scene. From Oscar winner Sebastián Lelio (A Fantastic Woman).
Her Smell – Unfortunately titled film finds Elizabeth Moss as a self-destructive punk rocker. Is there any other kind?
I am The Night – One of the Captain Kirk’s (Pine Kirk) is a gumshoe who teams up with an orphan woman to, hopefully, solve the Black Dahlia murder case in this fine TV shoe.
JT Leroy – Strange, true tale of a woman who impersonated a made-up author for 6 years. Or something like that. Looks pretty cool.
Knife + Heart – Take one helping of Bava, a dash of Lynch and two fingers of Anger, mix well and serve up this gay giallo inspired mystery. Knock it back in one gulp.
Woman at War – An Icelandic woman goes to battle against a big polluting aluminum factory! Who’s gonna win?!
