Black Dog Newsletter April 24 – 30 “Collector’s Be Collecting Edition!”
We’re just over a week away until the Crazy Insane DVD Sale! Yes, you read that right, it’s both crazy and insane! We’re almost finished going through all the titles and I have to say there’s some gems in there for sure. Hundreds of Criterion titles will be up for grabs – DVD and Blu Ray – as well as a healthy dose of classics, British, opera – yes a couple hundred opera DVDs!, animation including Studio Ghibli titles, film noirs, foreign, cult, box sets and much much more. There’s even a Blade Runner briefcase special edition! How cool is that? Sunday May the 6th at 10am at the Cambie store (we’ll be open for regular business around 1:30 or so). Pay in cash and we pay the tax! Hope to see you there.
New Releases!
12 Strong – Army movie starring Thor and Michael Shannon as they lead a team of “Special Forces” to take on the Taliban in Afghanistan shortly after September the 11, 2001. And on horses it seems.
Animal Kingdom Season 2 – Season 2 of the tough family drama action drama about a tough family doing dramatic things in Southern California. Based on the excellent tough Australian drama of the same name.
Broken – Sean Bean and another guy are priests presiding over folks in northern England somewhere in this well-received TV show. No telling if Sean Bean gets killed at some point although the title of the show leads me to believe that something or someone gets or is broken.
The Crown Season 2 – Season 2 of the fine TV program about Queen Elizabeth riding out the 20th Century with her boorish husband and wacky family.
Den of Thieves – Tough, gritty heist thriller finds some “Special Forces” cops trying to stop some creative bank heist folks from committing a seemingly impossible bank heist. Star Gerald Butler, for better or for worse.
Ex Libris: The NY Public Library – Famed extensive (over 3 hours) documentary takes you behind the scenes on how the NY Public Library works. In case you were ever wondering.
In the Fade – Revenge drama/thriller finds Diane Kruger seeking said revenge after her husband and son are killed in a bomb attack. From Fatih Akin (Soul Kitchen, Head On).
Maze Runner: Death Cure – Third film in this trilogy ends with the main guy looking for something to cure a deadly disease. And maybe running through some corn. Or would that be Maize Runner?
Rebecka Martinsson – Rebecka Martinsson returns to her northern Swedish home town to help solve the mystery of a friend’s death. But all, it seems, is not what it appears to be. Good TV show stuff!
